So, we’ve all been enjoying the budding romance between Joan and Chinedu this week. It was like she hit the ground running – the romance started on Sunday night, hours after the two walked into the house. Let’s not forget it was Joan who initiated the conversation as Chinedu washed the dishes; it was Joan who steered the conversation toward sex and relationships. Chinedu has been swept up ever since.

We’ve debated whether the emotions that have been expressed so far have been real or fake. There have been romantic words, songs, rebuffs and flirtations – the whole gamut. Real or fake. Love, lust or just plain old fun, the fact is the two are in the Big Brother house -for at least the next week anyway.

Grappling with new emotions is one thing – what do you do with them? But grappling with a viewership of 53 African countries is quite another. One of the rules of Big Brother is that the housemates do not know what is going on in the outside world. Their only source of information is the man himself, Big Brother. So let’s say you’re getting hot and heavy with a girl/guy – are viewers taking an interest in your love affair? Are you be the talk of the town? If you are the talk of the town is it positive or negative?

These are just some of the questions that must be going through Joan and Chinedu's mind's right now. We now know that it is definitely the case for Joan. How do we know this? 'Cause she just can’t stop investigating what everyone is saying about them today. Joan has ever so unsubtly extracted information from her fellow housemates today to ascertain the impact of her relationship with Chinedu in the house and with Big Brother - and presumably the audience.

During the preparation of supper this evening, she distracted the women in the kitchen (Helen, Ify, Francisca) by asking them about their diary sessions - specifically if she and Chinedu had come up. The women candidly supported her suspicions much to her delight. Joan played down that she was pleased but made sure that she got every last detail. She made light of her feelings for Chinedu and denied enjoying all the attention, from the girls and from Big Brother.

Whilst washing the dishes with Ebuka, Joan steered the conversation to the diary sessions once again, proving that she really wants the low-down on what everyone has been saying about her and Chinedu. She started by first asking him about his relationship with Francisca. Joan told Ebuka she was relieved that there was another budding relationship that would deflect attention from her and Chinedu. [We’re convinced]. Ebuka said that he did not want to entertain anybody with his love affairs and that it was far too early to be jumping into anything, Joan agreed. He added that he had been ‘turned on’ by Francisca’s advances though (thank God he’s human!).

Joan then moved on to what she really wanted to know: “Tell me they didn’t ask you about me when you went into the diary room”. Ebuka was cagey about his discussions with Biggie, and had finished the dishes so walked away from the kitchen at this point. Joan followed him saying that she hadn’t finished with him yet.

Why is Joan so obsessed with the fact that the other housemates are talking about her with Big Brother? Is she a big time attention-seeker? Is her relationship with Chinedu just a way of gaining attention (feelings or not)? Perhaps we’ll get clues as to whether she’s enjoying the attention from how the relationship progresses. So far it looks like Joan is freezing under the pressure.
