Big Brother Nigeria is here and the experience of a lifetime is about to begin!

This production extravaganza is set to take Nigeria, and the rest of Africa, by storm. The show, featuring 12 housemates doing anything and everything under the sun for 91 days, is brimming with Nigerian flavour. It looks set to be the largest TV production ever on the continent. "Big Brother Nigeria is going to be the biggest television experience ever mounted in this country," says Andrew Wilson, director of Big Brother Nigeria. "This will without a doubt become the most-watched show in not only in Nigeria but also in the 53 other African countries, as well as among ex-pats around the world."

Obi Asika, co-producer of the project from the Nigerian company Storm, says that the production will be an opportunity for the BBN audience to see "lots of laughs, tension, drama, and a lot of know-it-alls." He also thinks that the show offers the non-Nigerian audience "some kind of insight into these unique African people." Wilson says that the show will blow many preconceptions about this country right out of the water.

The housemates are sure to keep us begging for more. After a selection process that included more than 12 000 applicants, the chosen housemates are described as 'very articulate, good looking, opinionated, exposed, and truly Nigerian,' and they seem set to keep the house in a constant uproar.

And just in case things ever get a little boring, we can always count on Big Brother to spice things up! The house has been specially transformed into a voyeur’s paradise, with 27 cameras and 68 microphones recording the housemates' every move. As usual, the team promises that Big Brother will have a sleeve bulging with tricks, and Andrew promises that the housemates are in for "a series of big surprises all along the journey." The key to keeping up with BB is just to keep watching. The show will be full of challenges and sneaky maneuvers designed to unsettle, challenge and bring out the best (or worst) in the housemates.

As always, there will be tricky times and differences of opinion, but the team is prepared to deal with it with sensitivity and style. Says Andrew, "While there are certainly elements of conservatism to respect and consider, we intend to deal with contentious issues like sex, religion and politics in a respectful, sensitive and serious manner, without ever curbing housemates' spontaneity or their innate ability to express themselves as free-thinking spirits." But while BB might respect the contestants' limits, other housemates might not be so considerate. We will just have to wait and see...

In spite of a few hiccups for the production-difficulties with infrastructure and Lagos traffic, both Storm and Endemol are anticipating a show like never before. It is a chance to showcase the skills of the Nigerian television industry and increase its profile across the world. Big Brother Nigeria is a chance to attract many more productions to the country. Obi Asika believes that Nigeria has "a million stories to tell and the world needs to hear them.
