Katung Breaks The Spell
Katung Against Ebuka
The ring-fence that’s existed around Ebuka from the first to the fourth nominations has been broken by Katung, who nominated Ebuka in the fifth nomination session (April 10). Even Ebuka’s cherished snazziness could not save him this time around.
Hitherto Ebuka has been seen as ‘the untouchable’. Even the poll run on the Big Brother Nigeria website asking why Ebuka had not received any nomination had 43% of the audience claming Ebuka was too nice to be nominated. 13% and 22% respectively believed that his killer smile and being inconspicuous made him enjoy a jolly-ride of immunity. But now, even the 19% who theorized that Ebuka ‘jazzed’ (enchanted) himself against nominations would definitely have to rethink as Katung broke the jinxed his run.
The reason he gave for nominating Ebuka was that, ‘He is the strongest link.’ He nominated Frank for being the second strongest link. One could call Katung a master strategist… We’ll wait to see if his approach doesn’t back-fire first…
Students of history will remember what Katung said as he was entering the House: ‘I am going to lie low and see who is in the center of attraction [obviously Ebuka]… Then push that person out.’
In their post-eviction interviews, Chinedu and Joan posited that Ebuka will carry the day after 91 days, while Yinka felt Katung would give Ebuka a good run for his money.
The SMS strap and forum are massed with messages comparing Ebuka and Katung. A sizeable number of the audience believes Katung has everything - even the fine looks and the charm to put Ebuka on tenterhooks. Moreover, Ebuka and Katung are close pals, but apparently they are both sleeping with one eye closed…
The ‘Girl Power’ advanced by Maureen in the House seems to be waning, with the second successive ‘all girls’ nomination arriving this week. The nomination of Ify and Maureen following that of Ify, Francisca and Joan (who was evicted) proves that the girls are becoming more vulnerable than the guys.
Meanwhile, the nomination pattern has revealed that it is not a ‘guys versus girls’ issue. Two guys and two girls nominated Maureen, while three girls and one guy nominated Ify. Are the girls abrading the ‘Girl Power’ themselves or is the jungle maturing gradually?
On the evidence of the Monday cross-fire nominations (perceived enemies nominating each other), the battle line has been thickly drawn. Rest assured, the Big Brother Nigeria House will always keep you at the edge of your seat.
