BFC, KBFC, JFC, GFC, And More!
Big Brother Nigeria Fans (all of us at Bigbrothernigeria.com included) are definitely not a quiet and lazy bunch, that's for sure! Over the past few weeks, fans of the show have been gathering heads of steam on topics as wide ranging as romance in the House right down to what particular item of clothing is a Housemate's favourite.
But nothing makes the fans more vocal, competitive or forceful than bringing up which Housemate is better or more deserving than which. Over the last few weeks, fans on the forum and via SMS have even arranged themselves into formal groups according to their favourite Housemates, some with active fan sites, and others even appointing presidents, chair persons, and secretaries of the clubs. If you notice certain three letter acronyms creeping their way across your TV screen, chances are it's a message from a member of a fan club to the rest of the club or to an opposing unit.
Here are some of the essential codes to stay on top of:
JFC Joe's Fan Club
EFK Ebuka Fan Klub (sic)
GFC the previous name of Gideon's Fan Club
G-Unit the current name of Gideon's Fan Club
BFC Baby Francisca's Club
MFC Maureen's Fan Club (a sub-division of the GFC and generally hated by the JFC)
KFC Katung's Fan Club, also known as KBFC, which stands for K-Black Fan Club (K-Black is Katung's nickname outside of the House).
In the early days of Katung's fan club, people wanting to avoid the obvious confusion with a worldwide fried chicken outlet using the acronym KFC, named the fan club Youths Earnestly Ask For Katung, which was then shortened to YEA FK. Naturally, the need arose to shorten it to something punchier that would use fewer characters via SMS.
All of the fan clubs are vehemently and aggressively supportive of their favourite Housemates, going so far as to assume the wishes of that Housemate when it comes time to vote for eviction. Currently there is a massive debate raging around the JFC's belief that it is Joe's wish that Maureen be evicted this week. In fact, not one fan group seems to be as organised as the JFC, with online meetings being held through a chat service on Joseph's Fan Site and the minutes being distributed amongst members.
One member of the JFC is an air hostess from Joseph's own employer, Virgin Atlantic, who promised to attend the online meeting in Johannesburg minutes before setting off to service a flight back to Lagos! Now that is fan-atical dedication!
It also seems as if there is an active recruitment drive on in the JFC, with all Joan fans now being called to join "the winners Fans" in the 'other' JFC!
The SMS strap too is awash with messages to and from the fans. One message proclaimed: "The newest and freshest thing in BBN... introducing K-Black Fan Club (KBFC)" and another reminding new members to Gideon's Club that "All Gideon fans please note, we are now known as GUnit not GFC."
We're about a third of the way through Big Brother Nigeria. We can only wait and see what the fans come up with next! To all you BBN fans, keep coming back - this website is especially for you!
